Westmead Millennium Institute (WMI) capped an extremely busy 2007 once again ranked among Australia’s top research organisations. The calibre of its research work was confirmed by the number of peer reviewed grants and awards received by its scientists.
The rural event of the year the Macquarie Matrons Ball was held on Saturday 27th October 2007 at the Gin Gin Cotton Gin in central NSW raising $120,000 for The Millennium Foundation.
The event was held in the Cotton Gin near Trangie and required massive production. From the dramatic table decorations, the fire-twirling burlesque girls, to the leggy dancers whose outfits included feathers guests plucked to receive a prize, the night carried out the Moulin Rouge theme to perfection.
A fantastic time was had by all who attended, guests where entertained by Will Anderson who hosted the evening and enjoyed the fabulous sounds of The Enormous Horns.
The evening would not have been the success if was without the dedicated committee of talented rural women who, lead by Kirsty Wettenhall, committed two years to the organisation, creative and fundraising effort. Proceeds will go towards the Ovarian Cancer research unit at Westmead Millennium Institute.
